Online Marketing Doesn’t Have to Be Difficult
Of the many challenges you may face as an Internet marketer, one is being persistent in your efforts. This may be especially hard when faced with tasks you find difficult or boring.
Let’s say that you have a great product. “If you build it, they will come” is a nice line, but that sort of thing only happens in the movies. Creating a great product is only the first step in earning money with a project. The next step is marketing.
Without some form of marketing, how will anyone ever find out about your product? You might answer, “Word of mouth,” but even that is a form of marketing.
The first thing you need to do is determine the market for your product. Who will want or need to buy it? Where do those people look for information? What do those people watch, read or listen to?
Once you’ve determined that, you need to figure out a way to reach that group. Is there one central location you can focus on to reach them? Or, do you need to have a “spread offense” and pound multiple paths to their doors?
One method of doing that is to check out the competition. Where are they advertising? What methods of marketing are they using? Are they missing out anywhere? Look for opportunities and ideas.
Finally, you need to determine a budget for your marketing efforts. This going to play a large role in determining your marketing strategy. If your competition is advertising on prime-time television, you’re not going to be able to duplicate their methods if you can’t afford a TV ad!
So, you will have to be more creative and careful. Make sure you spend your marketing dollars where you will get the most impact for your money. Fortunately, online you have a wide range of options. Can’t afford a TV ad? How about an ad on video sharing sites (that allow it)? Can’t afford an ad in a magazine? How about running a PPC campaign, where you only pay for ads that are clicked, not merely viewed.
And, never overlook “word of mouth.” While word of mouth can be a slow method of marketing offline, online it can spread like wildfire, if you have the right offer and reach the right audience. With social networking sites, word about your product can get out faster than ever before.
Online marketing need not be difficult. Just take things one step at a time and do some careful research.
